Robert Ross - NYC bluesman

Sometimes life is good, we got an email from Robert Ross the other day in which he outlines his tremendous experience

I am the leader of The ROBERT ROSS BAND based in NYC. I am a singer, songwriter, guitarist, & harmonica player who is known for a wide variety of blues, jazz, and other roots music. I worked with, and recorded with Big Joe Turner on Spivey Records. I have also worked with John Lee Hooker, Memphis Slim, Mama Thornton, Brownie McGhee, and Lightnin' Hopkins. My song "Sittin' In The Jailhouse" was recorded by Johnny Winter twice, and 2 other original songs appeared on ABC's daytime drama "All My Children". I won a New York Music Award for Best Blues Artist and have been nominated 6 times over the years along with the likes of John Hammond, Johnny Copeland, Taj Mahal, and Roscoe Gordon. I have performed at many festivals including the Chicago Blues Festival and the Montreal Jazz Festival in addition to being a mainstay at the Riverhead Blues Festival on Long Island. I have 7 cds out in my own name. I perform as a solo (acoustic or electric), an electric duo, or the full band of guitar, bass and drums. Sometimes we add keyboard. I also do a duo with harp wizard Adam Gussow on occasion, and I see on your blog that you are aware of Adam.

Robert also points to some music he is particularly proud of
BABY PLEASE DON'T GO: Robert Ross recorded this Big Joe Williams song live and solo at Hairy Tony's in Cortland NY on April 25, 2008. Mermaid Hawley shot the footage and captured the audio with her magic little Canon camera. Good job!

BAILOUT / ME MYSELF AND I / BROTHER CAN YOU SPARE A DIME / DOWN IN NEW ORLEANS / FOLLOW THE MONEY / BRING IT ON HOME TO ME / LA BAMBA: All of these songs were written by Robert Ross except for Brother Can You Spare A Dime (Music: Jay Gorney, Lyrics Yip Harburg, New Lyrics: Robert Ross), Bring It On Home To Me (Sam Cooke), and La Bamba (traditional Mexican folk song). The entire session was produced by the amazing Mike Tapp. It was recorded at MNN (Manhattan Neighborhood Network) Studio and aired on MNN Cable TV. The last two songs feature the fabulous Mr. Luis Extreme on vocals. Robert Ross: acoustic guitar, and vocals.

What a pleasure to, in a little way publicise a great artist. Finally some quotes

Bob Fass (Radio Un-nameable, WBAI-FM Pacifica Network): "A blues icon. One of the great blues spirits."
Albert King (legendary bluesman): "He's so fast, lightning would have to get on roller skates to catch him." Reported by Hank Reineke (East Coast Rocker).

Jimmy Page
(legendary Led Zeppelin guitarist): "HOT!!" Reported by Pablo Guzman (NY Daily News).

Rafael Alvarez (Guitar World, Baltimore Sun, HBO's The Wire): "Ross could make 'God Bless America' stand on its head and rock ... an imaginative writer with files of Twilight Zone tales ... soulful, vigorous guitar ... agile cat quick licks …the bluesman wailed, his voice rough and pliant and booming … most wonderful."

Bill Carlton (NY Daily News): "Robert Ross is a fine singer, a snappy lyricist, and an even better blues rock guitarist ... cut from the same cloth as B.B. King, Muddy Waters, and Johnny Winter … dazzling guitar … Time after time Ross delivers the goods."
